Submission Instructions
General Information
Calling Survivor artists and/or artists who identify as allies of Survivors. We invite you to submit a piece of artwork to be displayed at our annual Denim Day event. Your artwork needs to represent our Denim Day theme this year of “HEALing through Art”. Create a piece that best represents either what the acronym/word “HEAL” (Hope, Empowerment, Allyship, Love) means to you or an art piece that imparts a message of HEAL-ing to Survivors. This is a moment when we can come together and share our messages of Hope, Empowerment, Allyship and Love. Come join us as we stand with, and for, Survivors of Sexual Violence. Let your art speak to our community in support of our ongoing efforts to end the silence and end sexual violence. We look forward to seeing your creative submissions and don’t forget to sign your piece!
Important Info and FAQ:
- Who can participate? Anyone 12 and older. You don’t have to be a “professional” artist, just someone who enjoys creating art and someone who cares about making a difference!
- Is there a fee to submit? No. It’s free!
- Is there is limit of art pieces being selected? Yes. The venue space only allows for a selected number of pieces to be hung or supported on pedestals/tables, so we will be selecting between 12-16 art pieces.
- Will Pathways provide any art materials? Yes. We are offering a free canvas (12” x 12” square or 12” x 18” rectangle) to anyone willing to come to our office on Main Street and request one (with a signed submission form). Sorry, we cannot mail or deliver one to you.
- What medium can be used? Pretty much anything! Paint, pen, pencil, paper collage, multi-media, fabric, mosaic, mixed-media, black & white or full color, written prose/poetry, digital print, audio (2 min max) or video (2 min max).
- Size of art? Any piece, whether 2-dimensional (i.e.: flat canvas) or 3-dimensional (i.e.: sculpture) must not exceed 18” in length, width, depth or height. Any pieces exceeding the maximum size cannot be accepted/selected.
- Do I need to attend the event? Yes. Any artist (and their work) selected is expected to attend the event (bring your friends, family and/or significant others!). It’s a great opportunity for you to talk with any guests that are interested in you/your art!
- Will my artwork be returned to me? Yes. At close of event. You will be responsible for taking your art piece with you at the close of the event, unless you decide to donate it to Pathways.
- Can I sell my art at the event? If you have any interest in selling your art to a guest, it is up to you (artist/seller) and any interested guest (buyer) to negotiate directly. Pathways will not be responsible for selling or collecting payments or acting on your behalf in any way for art purchases.
- Insurance coverage for any damage, loss or theft? No. Neither Pathways nor the event venue will be responsible for any damage, loss or theft of your artwork.
- How do I share my art concept and/or finished piece? When completing the submission form, you will need to include a brief paragraph with the title of your piece (if any), an explanation of your motivation, concept or reason for submitting a piece, along with an image of the finished artwork (phone images are fine, just make sure that the image is clear and best represents the colors, medium, message).
- How and when will I be notified if my submission is selected? One of our Pathways team members will contact you via your preferred method by 5pm, Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
